Saints Acquire Golden From Cowichan Valley

Saints General Manager Rob Sklaruk announced the acquisition of 2005 born defenseman Wesley Golden from the Cowichan Valley Capitals for a player development fee.

Golden spent the 2023-2024 season with Capitals who play in the BCHL’s Coastal Conference. The Grande Prairie, Alberta native posted 2 assists and 43 penalty minutes in 43 BCHL regular season contests, adding 1 assist in 3 BCHL playoff games.

General Manager Sklaruk was pleased to add another veteran defenseman in Golden to the Saints back end, by saying. “Wes is a mountain of man, he is a big rangy defender who focuses on defending and using his size to take time and space away from attackers.

He will come into our group and be relied on to provide shut down and penalty kill minutes with the Saints. We’re excited to add a player of his character to the Saints.”

The 6’5” – 220 pound right shooting defenseman played the 2021-22 and 2022-23 seasons with the Grande Prairie Storm of the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL). In 84 AJHL games, Golden posted 4 goals, 12 assists and 104 penalty minutes.

The Alberta hockey product is excited to be playing closer to home with the Saints after saying. “I’m thrilled at the opportunity to play closer to my family for Spruce Grove and join a fantastic organization known for its success on and off the ice. I can’t wait to bring a strong physical presence to the team and contribute to an exciting experience for both the organization and the fans.”
