Spruce Grove Saints General Manager Rob Sklaruk announced Tuesday the team has acquired 2005-born defenceman Carson Lloyd from the Vernon Vipers in exchange for future considerations.

Lloyd, 18, comes to Spruce Grove following a move out west after growing up and playing all of his hockey in Ontario. The 5’11”, 185-pound blueliner has seen time with the Ontario Hockey League’s (OHL) London Knights, Hamilton Bulldogs and Brantford Bulldogs while seeing success last season with the Georgetown Raiders of the Ontario Junior Hockey League (OJHL) where he posted 15 goals and 19 assists for 34 points in 37 games played.

Before coming out west, Lloyd played for Team Canada East last season in the World Junior ‘A’ Challenge and collected three goals in six games. The Toronto, Ontario native suited up in four games for the Vipers to begin the 2024-25 BCHL season, picking up one assist in that time.

“Carson is a high energy person who is extremely excited to become a Saint,” said Sklaruk, “He is a veteran defenseman who will help move the puck north, make plays and be a shooter from the point. We expect him to step into our line up and be a strong contributor immediately.”

The Saints will renew an old rivalry this weekend as they get ready for a home-and-home set against the Sherwood Park Crusaders, beginning at Sherwood Park Arena on Friday night. Puck drop is slated for 7:00 PM with the game being broadcasted live on the Saints Radio Network as well as streamed on FloHockey.

Spruce Grove returns home to Grant Fuhr Arena for the second half of the weekend set against the Crusaders on Saturday night. Puck drop is set for 7:00 PM with tickets available for purchase online at tickets.sprucegrovesaints.ca.
