Saints Add Scoring & Grit With Signing Of Colin Doherty

Spruce Grove Saints General Manager Rob Sklaruk announced Wednesday the signing of 2005-born forward Colin Doherty for the 2024-25 season.

A product of Sherwood Park, Alberta, Doherty completed his rookie season in Junior hockey in the 2023-24 campaign, earning AJHL All-Rookie Second Team honours. Doherty scored 15 goals to go along with 23 assists for 38 points in 53 games with the Grande Prairie Storm last season while showing plenty of grit as well, adding on 104 penalty minutes.

Following a strong regular season with the Storm, the 5’11”, 150-pound forward averaged over a point-per-game in the playoffs, registering 4 goals and 11 points in 10 postseason contests. Prior to his Junior hockey career, Doherty spent a season with the Sherwood Park Kings U18 team, posting 30 points in 37 games as a 17-year-old.

“Colin had a very good year last year in junior and earned a spot on our roster very quickly with his play on the ice at our camps this summer,” mentioned Sklaruk, “He is a tenacious worker, who plays an in your face style of game that the Saints covet. His ability to pursue pucks and turn them into offensive opportunities will be a welcome addition to our team. We are thrilled to have Colin become a Saint. Our fans are going to love him.”
